Cristian Vitale was born in Sulmona, Italy on April 17th, 1991. After living in the rural valley of Introdacqua, and attending the Instituto d`Arte Mazzara he moved to Wilmington, Delaware USA in 2007. His perseverance and enthusiasm led him to inspire school recycling programs to benefit the students while also working on creating scenes and props for plays. During this time, Cristian became a recognized leader among his peers and ultimately graduated as class president from Thomas McKean High School.
Cristian currently attends the University of Delaware on a full scholarship; he will graduate in 2015 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture and Anthropology with a minor in Art History. Over the last year, Cristian has been working on developing elite preservation, conservation and restoration practices with the mentoring of sculptor Joe Moss, Professor Emeritus, University of Delaware Sculpture. He also assisted Cameron Hockenson, visiting sculptor from Greece, in the 5x5 Project which opens in September 2014 as part of the DC Commission for the Arts and Humanities in Washington DC. In April 2014, Cristian was nominated as a Plastino Scholar, one of few research grants offered to undergraduates at the University of Delaware. As a result, Cristian will travel to Cambodia to study Buddhism in December 2014. His research titled “Finding Power in Powerless Situations: How Buddhism Brings Light” will help the development of his body of work.
